Mint is an herb used as a cooling and refreshing properties. Mint is tasty as well healthiest herb. Using this flavorsome and aromatic herb we can make Mint dip (Mint chutney), Mint Rice, Beverages, Great for Dressing, Toppings salads, Refreshing teas, Mint cake, etc.

How to grow Mint?

Fresh mint is available all year-round, but it is most abundant in the warm summer months. Hundreds of varieties available in mint. Most popular mints are Spearmint, Peppermint, Chocolate mint, etc, etc.. In some place use hydroponic methods to grow mints. If you lot space in the backyard then grow by sowing seeds or buy a plant from a nursery and plant it in the ground, or use stem cutting methods to grow. Two easy ways to grow mint in containers.

Sowing seeds: Buy good quality seeds in stores or online and sow seeds in a large container with potting mix or use mixer of coco peat moss, garden soil and potting soil with correct proportion “all these for container garden“. Sow mint seeds in 1/4 inch deep and 12 inches apart, because it spread quickly. And water it thoroughly.

Mint Growing

By Cutting: We all buy mint in the grocery store any chance, remove leaves and use stems to grow, or else from our friends, neighbors get some mint cuttings and use those mint stems and grow in your place. For cuttings cut the stem below node and place in a glass of water like (Shown in picture above). After 4 to 7 days roots start growing, Then prepare container with potting soil and plant it with 10 to 12 inches apart. I tried this method of growing mint now. Later will update about growing in upcoming posts. Honestly, I am not sure about varieties of mint I am growing. Lot and lot of varieties .

How to cook Mint rice?

Using this aromatic herb to cook mint rice and enjoy the flavorsome rice. I include coriander leaves in small amounts in this recipe for good color and flavor. This is super quick, easy and delicious recipe for mint lovers. You can say it as Mint rice, Mint puloa, Pudina Rice, Pudina sadam in tamil. Hearty and Healthfully mint rice can be Serve as a main course along with your favorite side dish like potato fry, raita.

Basmati rice: Basmati rice or long grain rice is used in this recipe. It is easy to cook, takes around 15 minutes to cook. You can also cook with normal rice or parboiled rice and adjust water depending rice, Use pressure cookers for parboiled rice. Take 250 grams of basmati rice, wash 2 times and soak it for 10 mins.

Mint leaves, Coriander leaves: Use one cup mint leaves and 1/2 cup coriander leaves, wash thoroughly without any dirt. Adding coriander leaves give good texture, flavor and color.

Coconut: Use dry coconut half a cup or coconut milk (1 cup) for this recipe.

Spices: Ginger, Garlic, green chili, Turmeric powder for grinding. Cumin seeds, Cloves, Bay leaves, Curry leaves and onions for seasoning.

Method

Soak Basmati rice for 10 mins. Meantime ready to prepare the masala paste and make seasoning for mint rice. Add, Mint, coriander leaves, coconut, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder in a mixer and make a smooth paste.

In a Pan, add oil, After the oil get hot, add, bay leaves, cloves, cumin seeds, then add, onions and curry leaves. Then add, Green masala paste and saute it for two minutes, Then add soaked basmati rice with 500 ml of water and adjust salt as per taste, mix well and cover with lid.

After 10 minutes open and check rice is cooked or not by pressing with hand, once cooked, off the stove and leave it on the stove top for 5 minutes. Then serve it along with favorite side dish.

14. Salt as taste

Instructions
:

Step 1: Add, Mint, coriander leaves, coconut, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder in mixer jar and make a smooth paste.
Step 2: In a Pan, add oil, After the oil get hot, add, bay leaves, cloves, cumin seeds, then add, onions and curry leaves saute it for a minute.
Step 3: Then add, Green masala paste and saute it for two minutes,
Step 4: Then add soaked basmati rice with 500 ml of water and adjust salt as per taste, mix well and cover with lid.
Step 5:
After 10 minutes open and check, once cooked, off the stove and leave it in stove top for 5 minutes.
